As you are beginning to think about how you will propose, just keep in mind that your partner has probably been planning this in their head for years already. No pressure.
All kidding aside though, you do want to make this a memorable day for the both of you; a day that you will never forget. There is something remarkably romantic about the beach, and if you plan one of these great beach proposals, you will be sure to receive a ‘yes’! But first, there are a few things to think about before you choose your method – you want to do your research ahead of time so that when the day comes, you and your partner can enjoy it (plus, you will be nervous enough, you don’t need to add any extra stress)! Ask yourself the following questions: Who else do I want there? Do I want it to be just the two of us or should our family and friends be involved? Who will take the photos? Which beach will best facilitate what I want to accomplish? Once you have thought out these questions and have decided on the beach location, it is time to pick your delivery! Here are a few ideas to consider…
Proposal in a Bottle
Plan for a picnic at the romantic hours at the beach, either dusk or early dawn – this is when you will get that perfect beach lighting (you will appreciate it in the pictures that are to come)! Once you are set up with your blanket and are enjoying a glass of wine or your favorite snacks, point out that you see a weird looking bottle (that your in-disguise photographer has put in place) a few feet away. “Let’s go check it out,” you tell her. Tucked in the bottle will be a scroll of paper with your words on it – tell her how you feel about her and why you want to spend the rest of your life together. By the time she is done reading it and looks up you will be down on one knee with her diamond glistening in the sun.
You will need someone that you trust to help you with this, either a photographer that you have developed a relationship with, a family member or friend or the concierge from the hotel if you are traveling. You will need to ask this person to bury a ‘treasure box’ (with the ring in it) with the edge sticking out of the sand and have them wait there to be sure the ring is safe. Tell your partner that you want to take her on a treasure hunt. You will then hand her a piece of paper that gives her directions on where to go – you may want to include some fun things along the way to make it interesting. For example, ‘go to the umbrella that is red and here you will find some bubbles that will go to your head’ – here you can have a bottle of champagne set up. You can have a blanket ready to enjoy a glass of bubbly in the sand or bring it with you along on your hunt! Continue with fun stops along the way until you eventually get to the hidden treasure box. As she is distracted digging up the box, get down on one knee to be ready for when she reveals the hidden ‘gem’!
Beach Sand Writing Proposal
It might sound cliché, but writing a message in the sand is a timeless and romantic way to propose. Be sure to check out the area before the big day, you want to make sure that the space is not under water during high tide and that there is not too much foot traffic over the spot where you will write your message. You will need to bring a friend or family member along for this one as well, to be sure that nobody steps over or ruins your message. Taking a sunset walk is perfect for the photos you will want to take, but do your homework ahead of time to make sure that it isn’t dark once she finally sees her message in the sand! You can choose to write the message with a stick in the sand or with white rocks and shells – both will do the trick and your partner will be over the mean either way!
Whichever method you choose, your beach proposal will be a day that you will never forget! Remember to plan according, have someone on-site for photos, have a backup plan in case of rain, and most of all, have fun – this is a new and exciting chapter in your life!
